On March 25, 2019, the Department of Justice filed a letter fully supporting a district court ruling on the Affordable Care Act.
In December 2018, U.S. District Court Judge Reed O'Connor ruled the Affordable Care Act's individual mandate unconstitutional; thereby, making the rest of the law invalid. The ruling is still being appealed but is now fully supported by the Department of Justice. It is anticipated that this case will make its way to the Supreme Court.
Despite the court ruling, the Affordable Care Act still remains in effect and employers should continue to adhere to its requirements.
